i have an acer 1622 with a dvd dual drive that plays dvd fine, but when i try to:

    play an audio cd
    insert a cdrw disc
    insert a dvdrw disc

nothing happens and the drive just makes noises.

i'm not sure if DVD Region Free software had anything to do with it, i uninstalled it but still the same problems.

is there any software that can fix this or am i f***ed?

Do you know what model drive it is? You will probably need to use something like Aida32 to find out, system makers often buy OEM drives without any identifying labels.

Once you find out, look for firmware updates for that model, it's a common problem with combo drives.

It's a Lite-on just did a quick google and found a thread on cdfreaks.http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread....2&page=1&pp=25 I suggest you have a look at the lite-on forum on cdfreaks.http://club.cdfreaks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=44 Don't forget to read the FAQ....As a lite-on owner I would say there kinda dodgy drives you can get good results but they thrive on good quality + media...Look at the tool section and don't forget to backup your firmware and eeprom before you start messing around it may save you in the end...The firmware for the drive is here http://dhc014.rpc1.org/indexOEM.htm#L but do some research before flashing...good luck SOHW-812S@SOHW-832S Z modded
