so its a bitch to work with
the BIOS updates on MSI's site wont do, the revision #s are all goofed
and i couldnt be bothered looking anywhere else

plus, like peat said, its mom...
cant take something back from her
shes half my size and twice my age but shell still kick my ass
not to mention its the least i could do for all the shit my parents took from me
I think I could still get hold of, for example, a Barton xp 2500 over here.

Couldn't you get one from off-shore or something? You shouldn't have settled for a sempron.

Also, I'm not sure, but I think some Semprons work better on old rigs than others. I think I saw something about a few socket A boards needing BIOS updates to work with 3000s and 2200s even when they worked with other Semprons (tho' it didn't say "Sempron" during POSTing with any Sempron, using the old BIOS, it'd still work with other Semprons).

At any rate, I wouldn't buy one, unless I was forced to, and I'm not for now as I can still get my hands on more mobiles should I need them.

    http://www.newegg.com/ <-still in stock

This had been excellent for you.

nah this board took it easily
    (gigabyte 7nf-rz-c)
    posts as a sempron 2200,
windows sees it as a sempron, etc.
(the MSI was seeing it as an athlon cpu)

and it really doesnt seem to lag much from the xp 2400, if at all
    same cache, same core (t-bred)
so really all i lost was some clock speed, and i can tweak that
dont know how reliable this is, but...
have seen it posted in other places...
ppl getting the sempron 2200 t-bred up to 1800-2000 MHz
its doubtful that i'll try it though
seems to be running ok for the net, office, photoshop, etc.
already decided not to game or anything until the 64 is built
plus its cool & quiet, 40C with the fan @ 1800 RPMs
the athlon needed 3000 RPMs to stay at 45C

so i guess i can quit my bitchin now

I am just a worthless liar. I am just an imbecile.
I will only complicate you. Trust in me and fall as well.
I will find a center in you. I will chew it up and leave.
I will work to elevate you just enough to bring you down.

    it was a lie

    it took a clock of 1755 MHz (195 x 9)
not too bad i guess compared to the stock clock of 1494 (166 x 9)
but at 200 x 9 it told me to fk off
i was makin 5 MHz jumps,
so it may go @ 196, 197, hell maybe even 201+
all i know is it doesnt like 200 MHz

    41-42C @ 1755 MHz

-edit- but i'm back at stock settings now (1494 MHz) @ 40C
went back to default after the 200 MHz x 9 failure
    funny thing though....
last night when i was fking with it...
it was clocking up my RAM speeds too...
so i ended up running PC3000
but today i fkd with it some more...
and it down clocked my RAM
i must have missed something in the BIOS

    -edit again-
that could be whats keeping me from the 200+ settings...my RAM
    only running PC2700

If you can unlock it you should try upping the multiplier instead and keep the fsb lower.

Unlocking Bartons (caution, this applies to regular xp's, not sure about semprons)

Another approach (tomcattin's post) (unlocking them these ways won't work with n-force tho', I just noticed. Not sure why it won't work if you turn them into what is in effect a mobile, as mobiles work fine with n-force 2, but people say it won't work)

If that gigabyte is a n-force board a multiplier of at least 11 would be a lot better.

It's better to keep it synched with your ram, so don't run it asynchronously.

Final EDit: since unlocking the multiplier with your n-force board appears to be out of the question(looked it up on google) You should consider some PC 3200 ram, it's not very expensive and it should most certainly give you a bit more stability. Maybe you can sell what you have now to your mum?
