Is'nt the Bios on the motherboard?
I'm going to get an Anthlon XP Mobo+Proccessor deal. (completely compatable)
All I would do i unplug everything off my current mobo includeing the power supply from inside and also a few other wires. I have a current book explaining each part, function, etc on an amd mobo.

btw got n e suggestions about faster proccessors comeing out?
I'm looking for some good speed here

My mobo and proccessor stats right now:

< Processor(s) >
Model: AMD Athlon™ processor
Speed: 1.20GHz
Model Number: 1198 (estimated)
Performance Rating: PR1593 (estimated)
Type: Standard
L2 On-board Cache: 256kB ECC synchronous write-back

< System Mainboard >
Bus(es): ISA AGP PCI USB
MP Support: No
System BIOS: Award Software International, Inc. 6.00 PG
System Mainboard: SiS-730
System Chipset: Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS) SiS730 CPU to PCI Bridge
Front Side Bus Speed: 2x 100MHz (200MHz data rate)
Installed Memory: 384MB SDRAM
Would I be able to install an Intel proccessor in my computer ok? I found a major deal on a 2.4ghz for only $80.

That's a no-go. At the moment you have an AMD Athlon compatible motherboard.
This is NOT compatible with Intel CPU's.

So you're either stuck to AMD Athlon CPU's or you have to by a new mobo/CPU/ram setup.

ah thanks for letting me know.
Alot of people say AMD makes high end chips so i went with a 2400 2.0ghz (includein the faster fan) for $100. Swell deal cause I saw the same 2400 model 2.0ghz amd cpu at bestbuy, frys, etc for like $200-$300!

Have you checked to be sure your board supports the new CPU you intend to get?

I'm not sure but I looked around for information about your motherboard Chipset. I think it's limited to 200Mhz front side bus.

Not all boards support 266 front side bus. That means forget the Athlon XP if that is the case.

hmm would'nt it just run at 200 then? I was useing SiSoft Sandra to get that info.. it might have got that from the proccessor and listed it under motherboard.

Here are the official websites for my motherboard:

SIS 730 Motherboard details

Sis 730 motherboard description

i dont see any front side bus speed limitations of 200mhz. (and they got alot of detials on it too..)

Both those links you posted point to the same thing.

It points to a Sis730s chipset.

Is yours a Sis730 or Sis730s?

Anyway my understanding is that Sis makes chipsets not motherboards. I could be wrong but is it possible that your board is made by another company and it just uses the Sis chipset?

Can you look at the board itself and see if you can see a manufactures name and mother board model number?
