what r the symtoms of a overheating systems

my pc somtimes goes onto the log off screen for no reason. also microsoft outlook loads up for np reason. and my pc locks up, when i press ctrl-alt-del my pc unlocks

what is going on???
ive reformated 2 times same problem. ive run every scan under the sun.

doesnt sound like a thermal issue to me
the lock-ups, yeah maybe, but not the outlook deal
and if the heat was locking it up, i dont think ctrl-alt-delete would free it up
but then, hell, i havent seen it all or know it all
just doent seem like the problem to me

if you dont have either of these, everest, sisoft sandra, or even speedfan,
may be worth getting em to see what temps they are reporting
or of your BIOS has hardware monitoring (most do i believe),
reboot after running for a while and see what it reports

hard for me to say
i would say that biostar isnt the most popular motherboard,
but i cant comment on their reliability, as i have never had any experience with one
you could maybe post your full system specs,
and any changes you have made recently, hardware or software, how old the system is, etc.
and see if any others may come in with a possible solution
as i cant see how any hardware malfunction would make outlook launch on its own

It definitely doesn't sound like an overheating problem.

Hve you got a wireless mouse? I tried one, all sorts of wierd things happened. Random signals from the mouse made it seem like the mouse was being moved and buttons were being clicked even when I wasn't touching it. It was very bad though so it was obvious what the problem was. I suppose a less pronounced problem would be much harder to find. I don't think it would explain the lock-ups though.

Hmmm.
Are you installing from a real MS disk or an ahem alternate /ahem version?
Has this version (assuming you've been using the same one for a while) worked OK before?
This is definitely NOT a thermal issue and doesn't even seem hardware related (BTW, before I started working at the shop they used lots of Biostar boards- they are generally crummy IMO, but I've never seen one open Outlook on it's own), so that leaves the software environment.

Maybe you could try yet another format/install and see if a barebones Windows exhibits the same behaviour. Add other apps one at a time and maybe you can isolate the offending bit of code.

Is the screensaver coming on before it goes to the logon screen? It could be set to automatically go to the logon screen after the screensaver.

You have all drivers installed (especially motherboard, video and sound drivers)? That could explain the lockups...but not sure why it would come back to life after alt+ctrl+del.

That's a good idea, Ross.
It's possible that this machine has multiple issues, not just one all encompassing kludge.
If that solves the logon screen problem then all you need to find is the reason that Outlook is self opening.

maybe a virus or spyware/adware is opening unwanted programs

Oh and outlook could be opening to automatically check your emails or something like that. Could have been setup my ISP software or even possibly by itself (as default or something).
