i hav a wireless network setup in my home and i hav a feeling that my neighbors are using it aswell for free internet because whne i checked out my routers ip it said there were 6 connections when i own only 5 computers so my question was how can i prevent them from connecting. btw my router is the smc barricade 700vwbr

Chances are the sixth is the actual router or you might have added another connection by mistake,enable wep encryption on the connection and add a password if you think some1 is using you connection.

In the router config page it should show somewhere what all of the computers connected by dhcp are.

setup mac addressing filtering on the router, you should only need to register your wireless clients not all them. them disable the routers dchp server, and setup the connections manually, disable brodcasting of the ssid, and if you want, enable encription
