VideoLAN started doign wonky things with sound on my Windows XP system so I had to uninstall it. The probelm is that none of the other video players I've been able to find online do all the things VLC does, particularly handling video files with multiple audio and/or subtitle tracks.

In addition, the people who make VideoLAn say they plan to take down their porgram if the European Union adopts software patents.

    Do I have any options?

You're right, it is the best.

Have you tried just re-installing it?

If its playing the wrong subs or the wrong audio tracks check in the options as video files can have more than 1 sub/audio track so you can select which one you want.

Yes, svereal times. And even re-downloading it. the one thing I haven't tried to do is download and install an earlier version.

The problem has nothing to do with that. there's just a lot of feedback on the audio track. i don't know how to describe the sound, but it's something horrid.

never if the Eu adopts software patents as Microsoft is blackmailing them to do. If that happens, the group will shut down rather than risk becoming outlaws.
