    Right click > Open in new tab.

    So Slimbrowser required no clicks to open a page from a link in another tab. Unfortunately, I don't think Firefox has a telepathy plug-in yet

    Go for the mouse gestures plugin. Then all you have to do is keep the right mouse button held down and drag the mouse up to open a new tab.
