Thread: Time to replace to DVD Writer me thinks!

  1. #1
Lond story short, my current dvd writer is fucked, doesnt burn right (it kinda bruns a disc fine but on certain parts the dye isnt burned on hard enough) causes all kinda errors. About 50% coasters now and iv had enough so whats the best DVD RW drive with these kinda spec:

    - & + Support
    RW Support
Dual Layered Support (Even if its not very fast)
8X Speed min and 16X would be ideal and im willing to pay more for 16X
OEM (Im not paying extra for a nice cable and software i already have)
    Internal & IDE
    Brand doesnt matter to much.
CD-R & CD-RW 52X speed burning (This is standard anyway)

I've heard that a NEC is good and that people praise a certain model but cannot remember.

The drive will be used for burning 2-5 DVDs a day at 4X & 8X, mostly Xbox, PC & DVDr.

Havn't decided on a budget yet as i want to see how much im gonna need to pay for a good one. Im UK and will be shopping online (www.ebuyer.co.uk is where i'll be ordering from but if they dont have the drive thats the best i'll look else where)

I was looking at a few models and they were much cheaper than i expected (Like £30) so what do people think of these:

Samsung TS-H552U 16x16x DVD R/RW Internal IDE OEM

Samsung TS-H552UB 16x16x DVD R/RW IDE Internal OEM Black

    NEC 3540

I was going to get the NEC 3520 a few weeks back but had to hold off. When I eventually found the time, and cash I purchased a load of items, with one being the newer NEC model. Runs like a charm. Highly recommended.

Also, I tend to get my hardware from Aria so check them out as they also price match

    Edit: fixed link

The NEC ND-3540A is the replacement for the NEC ND-3520A.

    Higher recording speeds:
    CD RW @32x (24x)
    DVD+RDL @8x (4x)
    DVD-RDL @6x (4x)
    DVD-RW @6x (4x)

All that for only about £3 more.
