    I was always told that a Faster 2nd-3rd Drive can cause Bootup & System Problems...but I could be wrong.

    There was a time (many years ago) when that could have been true, if startup wait times were incorrectly set. But these days controllers expect drives to be able to be powered down (and therefore not available), so they automatically handle the situation of the slave drive being ready first.

    Go for the 7200.8, it is newer, faster, cheaper. As spirex says, it also has NCQ. That may not be useful to you now, but it may be in the future if you upgrade your mobo.
    If he's got the urge to splurge he could get a controller card with support for NCQ when he gets the drive, they aren't that expensive.



    Btw, I put a couple of those seagate 250gig 7200.8 drives in my brothers' computers, as far as I can tell they are the best drives you can get these days when it comes to something with good storage capacity, pricing and speed at the same time.
