I'm gonna get back into a bit of online gaming and fancy boosting up my spec, I might aswell got the distance and get my max for the board so my choices are either Athlon XP 3200+(400 MHz FSB)(Model 10)(Barton) or a Sempron 3000+ anybody got any suggestions?

    Definitely the Barton XP.

Semprons are crippled Athlons and are meant to be budget chips.

If you still can get a hold of that 3200, then grab, 'cos it's faster.

The sempron 3000 is a Barton too though, I'm pretty sure it even has 512kbs of L2 (the other socket A semprons are neither bartons nor do they have 512kbs of L2, so that's the only one to get if any). And it operates at a slightly slower voltage so it's bound to run a bit colder as well. 'cos of that it's not the end of the world if you have to settle for one.

If your mobo supports it, an athlon mobile could be worth getting instead, though.

    You a briton?

I think zero had some luck finding components off ebuyer the other day, and Arcadia is bound to know some good places. If you are a briton that is (that's what it says in your profile but that isn't always accurate).

You can also try running a search on pricerunner.

    188 in stock (3200)

    228 in stock (sempron)

(had to edit the first link 'cos the first one pointed to a cached page or something)

Just suck it up and carry on.

Get used to the fact that you will always be behind the curve and are just a schlub like the rest of us.
