Thread: Which LCD should I get?

  1. #1
Ive been keeping my eye on this one for some time:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824209002
    8-Cube JT178QP49-12 Black 17" 12ms LCD Monitor

    Panel TFT LCD
    Screen Size 17"
    Display Type SXGA
    Maximum Resolution 1280x1024
    Recommended Resolution 1280x1024
    Pixel Pitch 0.264mm
    Brightness 270 cd/m2
    Contrast Ratio 450:1
    Response Time 12ms

But the price went up $10.

    Or maybe this one?

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824021009
    Rosewill R710E Black 17" 16ms LCD Monitor

    Panel Active Matrix, TFT LCD
    Screen Size 17"
    Display Type SXGA
    Maximum Resolution 1280x1024
    Recommended Resolution 1280x1024
    Viewing Angle 140°(H) / 125°(V)
    Pixel Pitch 0.264mm
    Brightness 260 cd/m2
    Contrast Ratio 450:1
    Response Time 16ms

$17 cheaper. Or any other ones you guys can think of. Atleast 17" and around the $200 mark.

Forgot to include... no mail-in rebates. Hate waiting 6-8 weeks to get my money back :p

I checked the reviews on the 8-cube and alot of people are reporting no dead pixels.

I see you are over the 5k mark VB

Thanks. You're the first to say anything about that.

I wouldn't buy an LCD that I couldn't see in person first.
Product specs cannot give you the same info that your actual eyes can provide.

That said, I realize not everyone has the luxury of comparative viewing so....

IMO, for general usage, the most important spec to look for is viewing angle.
There is nothing worse than being locked into a narrow range of position just to see the screen properly.
My screen for instance, has a viewing angle of 170 degrees, both up/down and side/side.
That's about as good as it gets.

New screens (Samsungs I believe) have dropped the response times to sub-5ms range which would be nice, assuming the view angle doesn't suffer in the process ( I haven't seen one yet).

As always, prices will continue to drop, so waiting a while longer might be worth it.
