Thread: My mate said my comp is open to the net?

  1. #1
Ok guys...after listening to u lot for a bit a figered most of u know what ur on with.

My freind came round today (with a bottle of J.D) and we got drunk. He started playing around with my P.C and said I was open to the net. Reason being that he could accsess my shard documents typing my I.P though Command promp, and adding "c$" to the end of my I.P he could accsess my C drive.

Now he did this through my proxy which is AOL which in my eyes leaves me open to people on the net who know my I.P

What I want to know is if this is bolocks or not?...if this part isent bollocks, I figered for the hacker to gain accsess to my comp in the first place they would have to know my I.P to gain accsess to my shared documents in the first place for them to use the "c$" command after the I.P so if this isent bullshit, is it easy to gain accsess to my I.P though the net alone, such as regestering at sites and what not.

I really need to know if he was talking shit or not beacause as far as I was concerned my comp was sercure.

so yeah...whats this guy on with..thank you.

Try a ports test. I like Shields up but there are a few listed here.

That MS firewall is no real firewall.
    Its better thatn nothing thought.

Most of the firewalls these days can block the ports and report
the apps that likes to get in or go out to the net.
Get yourself one, with Antivirus perhaps.
The Norton stuff aint the best either, its too heavy on puters.
Got Bitdefender here, which may not be best but I've been clean and
without a hassle with it plus I can block apps coming and going.

Personally. I dont share shit in Windows if I dont have to.
Its just common sence these days, unshare averything.

    Spoiler: Show

Yeah I have all the firwalls on a disk, I personally liked kasperkys firewall but has compatability issues with Azureus, so Im using Sygate now. The MS firewall was just a temp thing. Ill see now if its still the same with this firewall installed.

And Id never tough any of nortons products lol.
