Just An Idea...

Recently when I've had half an hour or so, I've been looking through my media files and noticed the odd episode of a programme that might be huge compared to files of the same length and resolution, so I've set off to search for smaller versions of the same media file.

If everyone does this now and again, then maybe it would be beneficial to everyone, since file sizes should get smaller - divx 4 files are normally a lot smaller than divx 3, for instance, so maybe we should all do this now and then.

Sounds like a very logical idea.In an ideal world it would be the case but I have a feeling it probably wont be done by many people.Too much time/effort required etc.etc.
Although Im gonna have a check through my files soon and do my bit.

It is a good idea, but I feel I might have to side with Jay on this. This may take a lot of time and effort, but yes I for one would be willing to give it a go.

Same here, It's an excellent idea, problem is that many times there is only one version of a movie.
