maybe they changed some of the standard settings in about:config.

check my guide in the guide/tutorial section. if you make those changes firefox will become faster

Just for information:

There was a build problem with 1.0.5 (I don't know what so don't bother asking) which is why 1.0.6 has followed so soon.
