If you are using an Nvidia card you could go into the settings of your card and change the color brightness. I had a simular problem when I watched a video it used to be inverted untill I messed with my Nvidia settings.

    do you use BSPlayer?

if so, there's something like HWColors or colors.. you can adjust brightness and save that to default

you can also use a program called virtualdub to change avi contrast and many other settings.

Divx codec has a config panel that allows you to adjust some playback settings, including exposure. Check to see if your codec pack doesn't have a config panel that will allow you to adjust your playback settings.
