    Unsure

I think XP and Photoshop hate each other

I have Photoshop set as the default handler of .jpeg, .gif, etc etc blah blah
so naturally the Photoshop icon shows for those files....

now it seems fkn Windows has to rewrite the freakin icons every time I open one of those folders

tried the "remember more folder views" tweak, set it to 1000, no help

    anyone have an idea?

edit- I think I need to add....said folders have 150-200 files in them,
so it takes a while to rewrite all the icons,
and the contents of those folders havent changed in forever,
so I dont think windows should have to re-scan the folder or whatever the hell its doin

come on people, I'm at a loss here
even tried the rebuild icon boolsheet, no go
I know it has to be somethin simple I overlooked....

no, I meant what I said, it was taking ages to generate icons

it turns out it was because Photoshop was trying to generate thumbs for em all,
but it was still the icons that was taking years to load

should I post a screenshot of the difference between an icon and thumbnail?

But why use Photoshop to be the default application in the first place? I mean, other than perhaps your own preference, having an image-editing application open itself everytime you click onto one of these images consumes alot of unnecessary time, IMO. Whereas you could use the default picture and fax viewer to actually view and then just the add the option to open the file in PS to your context menu if you indeed wish to edit it.

Or does Photoshop have it's own image viewer now. Personally, I would not know.

because I wasn't paying attention to file associations when I installed it

everything is going back to win pic & fax viewer for the default handler now

After 10 years of scewing up computers , file associations always gave me trouble. I hate Quick time for that reason .
