I am an American Vet. Should I bow my head in shame? I've been to war and I have had to kill. I was seventeen years old and looking for a way out of a miserable situation. I believed in what I was doing at the time. I later found out I didn't know shite about life.

Have you ever been in my situation? Do you know what it feels like to have a gun in your hand, and piss running down your leg... a scared little boy in a strange land?

War is evil. I don't need you to tell me that. I have seen it up close and I detest what it does to the souls of children. I haven't been the same since.


Some of us have experienced nightmares unimaginable...television fed patriotic mirages,born of good intentions that end up dying under the bloated sun of reality.Try not to be harsh in your judgement of us.

I think I will stand upright. I have learned from my mistakes...what more can you ask of someone?

Maybe this would be a good time to stop drinking and go to bed.
My chest feels lighter.

atleast you "learnt from your mistakes"
Have i ever been in that situation - no, never touched a gun, never experienced such fear to make me piss - but a scared little boy in a strange land - yes.

The invasion of Panama in 1989. This is the first time I have talked
about my experience,outside of talks with my brother and members
of my infantry squad.

The funny thing is I joined the Army to escape from my
mothers manipulative grasp and for the GI bill I never
dreamed I would actually go to war.

I truly didn't understood what surreal meant before I
went to Panama... However,there are few things in
life more surreal than the sound of bullets whizzing
by your head,and the song Jump by Van Halen being
blasted through loud speakers.

i remember the attack on Panama, my sisters boyfriend was from there - he was happy Noriega was removed.
But that technique of Blasting music did it actually work? It does not seem that us army uses that technique anymore...
if i recall no innocents where hurt..or?

I read somewhere that some civilians did kick the bucket, but I dunno' if that's right. At any rate, it might have been the other side's doing.

As for it being a just war, I'd say it was, as Noriega was a really nasty piece of work.

But, he might not have been in charge over there if he hadn't been backed by the US in the first place. But that's hardly doobie's, or the other US soldiers', fault.

The reason we blasted rock music through loud speakers was because Noriega hated rock music. I think the song Jump was appropriate.

The official estimates of civilian casualties were around 300. I believe it
to be higher. Some have claimed as high as 3,000. I don't buy it. There
was massive damage done to civilian housing. It was a complete mess.

The operation actually went pretty smooth...from a military point of view.
I don't think the people of Panama City and the surrounding areas would agree.
