The board is set to 175kb because we give members the option to have a 170kb avatar with 5kb sig, or 5kb avatar with 170kb sig, or any other como without going over 175kb.

Not being 1 to laugh in the face of rules I will reduce the size but I'm bemused where this is coming from when I check the image is says 168 kb or am I reading this wrong??

You aren't reading it wrong.

Just that the rules state:

The total file size for all images used in the signature and avatar may not excede 175kb.
