Thread: Free Newsgroup Access?

I think SBC doesn't carry large binaries (at least I haven't seen any multipart)

you could try this free newsserver i have been using it for over 9months ( even though i have a giganews account aswell )

    Newsserver address:freebin.readnews.com
Server Login:Any ( it does not require a login as such just put anything )
Server Password Any ( Again anything will do )

you can get about 4 concurrent connections and download speed is good, retention is about 4-5days but hey its free ,i have given this server to a number of my friends and they have not had a problem using it,it seems to support a fair few newsgroups, not sure how many but not had a problem with getting things from them so dont seem like a problem

    ENJOY!

hey guys i've always wondered this. I use my isp's newsserver and I get unlimited downloads,, 20-25 day retention with 2 connections. Should I be satisfied with that or go out and get a giganews account?

Thats the best Ive heard and doubt it would be worth it.
Just wondering what provider you have...

20-25 day retention with 2 connections sounds like the ISP outsources their news service to a provider like Supernews. Outsourced news service is often speed limited according to the contract the ISP has with the provider.

I dunno if Verizon DSL/FiOS is available in your area, but it's what I use (DSL), and I have unlimited downloads, uncapped speeds, 8 max connections, with around 7 days retention. It's great if you're only going to get new stuff, which it is my case.
