    if it can't play it, I use GSpot to determine what codec I need:
    http://www.headbands.com/gspot/

    I also have quicktime&real alternative installed for those specific needs.

    Best codec pack audio & video is
    codecpack from ELISOFT it does all the work but you must uninstall all the codecs you had before.

    CCCP and Satsuki Decoder Pack for general use.

    Cole2k Advanced Codec Pack for advanced users.

    Not quite, although I agree that every user should know what to install and what not to...

    But what should we do with noobs and lazy users? Explain every time what to install?
