Does the first debian iso have xine and the alsa package?
btw its the "woody" version.

I dont know but xine kicks ass. I like xine way better than mplayer. Have you ever installed xine before?.........I mean installed from source code? If not then your in for a big suprise. It takes about an hour and 30 minutes to make the source files after you ./configure But xine is well worth it. If you install a gui with xine make sure you fix the enviormental variables according to your version of linux or it wont run. But to be honest, if you can get a distro with xine already on it then your a lucky chap. It will save you a lot of time and effort.

well im still new @ linux but i heard that the "apt-get" feature downloads and install software fairly quickly.
btw yea compling source code is such a bitch. it took around 4hrs to compile gentoo from stage-3. i heard it takes aleast a full day from stage-1
oh and yes xine does kickass. i cant belive all the formats it plays.
