I want to try the beta version...how do import the existing torrents from version 1.6.1 ?

Just open them with the new uTorrent, it should do a file check when the torrent opens and find where the current downloading/seeding files are and resume all activity.

If you used the 1.6.1 and 1.7 installer, instead of the standalone, it would automatically go to the same state that 1.6.1 was in, no file checks necessary.

I had to switch back to 1.6.1 because a couple of trackers havent unbanned 1.7 yet.

I hope it has new hidden features as well, such as reporting what you downloaded, how much you downloaded, from which trackers, etc. to BT Inc!
I was also hoping for a new tetris version...
