just to add... right now the 8800 gts IS better than the hd 2900xt. better performance, if by a little even on certain games, less power consumption (especially in crossfire mode where it literally eats ur psu to death) and a lot less noisy. sure, the ati dx10 just came out and i'm sure teh drivers will better the card, but i'm rather disappointed in my wait for the r600. seeing how it's a mid-range card hopefully the high ends will perform better cuz this 8800gts killer just ain't cuttin' it.

july 22nd is the day for upgrades! all intel cpu's go on sale. including the q6600 for $266! quad isn't where it needs to be so as of now i'm leaning toward a c2d w/ 1333fsb chip w/ bearlake and prob a 8800gtx, but that's all talk right now. we'll see.

The processors for the 939 are being discontinued and your 3800 is about as low as they go. If I were you I would get as high a proc that i could find for the 939 board now before they all disapear. On Newegg the 4200 is the highest they have left but if you shop around you might still find a 4600 or a 5000 somewhere. Even with a great graphics board your processor can be the limiting factor when it comes to all the extras being turned on so get as close to 3.0ghz as you can.

That wont fit. His motherboard is a socket 939. That CPU fits an AM2 socket.

If you dislike that 939 so much send it to me, I'll gladly pay the shipping.

Personally, I think that s939 with the NF4 chipset will be remembered as one of the great platforms in computing history.
