Lamsey makes an excellent point about computer games.Originally posted by Lamsey@16 June 2003 - 19:44
I only steal from those who won't notice it. I won't steal from small bands or in-trouble game studios. I bought Thief 1 and Thief 2 but that didn't stop pirates putting Looking Glass Studios out of business.
I only pirate if I can honestly say I don't feel it is immoral to do so.
Computer games are often a marginal thing, particularly adventure games. By sharing these types of games, I my extinguish their future by making them unprofitable.
So please continue to buy your games retail, if you can. Thanks.
Aren't we in the trust tree, thingey?
Ok but if we look ahead a number of years film companies might not see that there is the same return as there was and people might lose their jobs etc etc.Originally posted by JPaul@16 June 2003 - 18:50
Legality and Morality are entirely seperate issues.
The former is an agreed set of rules, as such is entirely objective. The latter is a matter of individual conscience and is entirely subjective.
One can quite easily break a law without having any particular moral issue. Basically as Lamsey outlined. He takes a moral stance, while being willing to break the particular law.
As soon as big companies smell decline for what ever reason they have to react.
You / me could be doin some poor laddy me chum out of their job!! Films being made for 100grand instead of 100 millions. Line get's a bit blurry then (think of the children of these employees)
Bottom line question is are we doin wrong?

Legally, yes. Morally, it's each to their own opinion.Bottom line question is are we doin wrong?
