Depends on the quality of the cheddar. Do it on high until it melts and then leave it on low for ~7 minutes. Some cheddar will go brown and chewy, whilst others will just go chewy. Either way the oil comes out and flavours the bread. Try it, you know it makes sense.
Yeah and the bread will be all dried out. My way bread stays soft on the inside, toasted on the outside with properly browned cheese.

And put meatballs on it. It's easy if done right! (Cold, store-bought meatballs from the deli = 4tw)
It still makes me laugh. I have a picture of some Canadian putting meatballs under the toast and saying to his sister/wife "I'm sure that be the resipe"
