For me, it was for 3-4 months to buffer my accounts and get some trackers i wanted with it
For the newsgroup, you have to pay each month for it that's what i don't like...but now i can leech the hell out of tracker sites for a year or 2

Or you could get a rapidshare account which is way cheaper than usenet or a seedbox (about ~75USD / year). The only downside is that there is a 'limit' which amounts to approximately ~152GB / month. There's a lot more content and theoretically infinite retention rates.
