I know that one can prove that something does exist, at least to a reasonable standard.

How do you go about being so sure that it doesn't. I would genuinely be interested in your thought processes.

IMO trying to debate whether aliens exist or not is like trying to answer the ancient question "If a tree falls and no-one's around to hear it, does it make a sound?"

It's unanswerable. And until either side give inquestionable evidence of their beliefs, then it's gonna be like that for a while.
