read the book, i had to read it for english over twenty years ago and found it rather good, which surprised me as i hated reading at that age. it's probably one of the books that got me into reading for pleasure.

I'm not much of a one for allegory but as a 16 year old this struck several chords.

I read it when i was 14, and i just found it soo depressing.

awwww man Go ahead and watch both the original (black & white) and the remake. If you haven't read the book you won't be dissappointed. The movies are not bad at all. If you notice almost EVERYONE that reads the book first says the movie sucked. Remember Pet Sematary. Well I thought the movie was great. I read the book AFTER. The book was good too. Consequently, everyone who read that book said the movie actually SUCKED (of course this book came out first).

Personally I watch movies over reading books (just don't have the time to read fiction).
