yeah it's alright for singles, bonus tracks, and albums released in the past few months, but you can't really find anything else on SCC.

i never even realized that vipv2 was scene until it was mentioned, so maybe I'll start using that tracker more often. I hope all the mp3s there are V2, because older scene releases are 128 and 192, and i would probably redownload the album if its 128.

No... EAC work the same for anyone who uses it correctly and bother reading a guide how to do it properly and set it up for your own drive.

All depend on what the ripper is using... if he's using some shitty ripping program in burst mode. It's gonna be shit. And anyway, there is a bunch of scene releases that don't get nuked while they should be. It's never easy to judge if a rip is flawed until you heard the whole of it and I'm sure most scene releases go on being released without the ripper giving his rip a proper listen before uploading it.

By the way, there was a graphic I seen on this. V2 is the best size to quality standard. But if you don't mind either way, you can get the 320 or V0 for greatest possible quality.

It's funny you mention "vipv2" in your list having V0... There is a V2 in that name All releases there are scene.

im pretty sure V2 stands for 'version 2', there was a vipmusic before that. and yeah i dont really use my vipv2 acct that much. right now my music is 128kbps and up, but i've started to download only 192 and higher now.

my question was basically asking if homemade rips tended to be ripped worse in general than scene rips, enough that theyd be worse. I know from a technical point you cant make v2 better than v0 if you use the same setting on the same computer, but realistically, is there a big percentage of people who rip with itunes or some program that would make their v0 rips worse quality. Alot of sites don't require logs, thats why i asked the question but i guess you guys didnt really get it from my OP

Well... I in part responded to you.

Scene rips can be flawed... the ripper usually don't listen back to what they are releasing. I've heard scene releases skips and squeek. But they use some standards. They all use LAME with EAC, which is the way to go for secure rips. The question is, do they all do it in burst mode to save time or do they do it in secure mode. You can't know cause there is no log provided with scene rips.

On the other hand, if you download home made rips with logs, you know exactly what you are getting and you can verify that those rips are secure and 100% accurate if the ripper included those settings like CRC checks, pre-gaps, Secure mode, etc. Then, you can be certain the quality of a home made rips is all the way more definitive than a scene rips that may be rushed. Cause ripping a cd can take 5 minutes or half an hour. I figure the scene must be opting for the 5 minutes solution in burst mode since they are ripping brand new flawless cds, while proper home rips made maybe out of scratched library cd use the 30 minutes method which prevent any errors from happening during the ripping.

If you want the best possible quality mp3s, get them from a releaser you trust on what or waffles and stick with their releases if they use those standards. I learned how to do all this myself just lately as I wanted to become an uploader on a Lossless tracker.

well unless there's a hacked version of itunes i don't know about, the default mp3 encoder is the fraunhofer encoder, not lame. so no, to my knowledge there's no bad itunes vo rips becasue there aren't any itunes vo rips. as has been stated a proper EAC ripper who has taken the time to set everything up to rip in v0 is 98% of the time going to be superior to the v2. granted, it's not THAT uncommon to see a blatantly mislabeled v0 when it is clearly not. so if you're downloading something that says v0 and it's sounding great, i would bet 9 times out of 10 it was mislabelled rather than poorly ripped.

From my experience scene rips are usually of very average quality. I much prefer user-rips. But in the end it's hit and miss with both. How can you know how good the rip will be before you download and test it.

because he didnt back up on why. I'm sorry for you if you took offense to that sear, but really i dont see how i was being rude.

Anyways, thanks for everyone who replied. From what you've all said, it sounds like scene rips are nothing special for mp3s. However I do really like DVDR scene rips.
