    I need help. It all started last night with my HP DV2310US laptop. I will be using it, and at random, it'll crash. Weird patterns will show up on the screen, and then I can't do anything. Nothing works, not Ctrl Alt Del, not standby, anything.

    This happens:

    I want to format the HDD and do a clean install of Windows XP, but I'm worried that the screen might be dead itself. I don't wanna start then have it crash halfway through the install. I also tried safe mode, same thing. At first it happened an hour or so after boot up.

    Now I just turn it on, like 20 seconds later it happens. I haven't called HP yet... any help would be greatly appreciated. =)
    i highly recommend u not to mess with this thing , i have got a bad experience , just consult with HP for this , we are at FST not as professional as they are sitting their and waiting for their customers .

    here's my appeal: don't let invites become a currency!

    I would have your info backed up before sending. Sometimes they wipe it.

    115C geezuz man, mine used to crash at 60C
    used work with fridge door open....
    I have one fan, and it's running at normal speeds. Nothing is clogged or anything like that. I'm guessing a lot of dust and dirt appeared after about a year of use. I don't know. And you thought 60C was bad.

    Yeah I'm just going to leave everything alone.

    @saqib
    I just assume all the techs at HP don't know what they are doing. Hopefully they fix it, and quick...

    @backlash
    Yeah I was asked to back up my stuff. Nothing valuable really. I don't care if they wipe it, a lot of it is on my desktop too. I just don't want them telling the RIAA I have all that music you know?

    Can't you just take your hard drive out? I know Dell lets me do that before I shipped my laptop back for repair.

    Not sure. I just assumed opening the laptop voided the warranty, just to be safe.

    It doesn't, but the safest thing to do is to ask them.

    I know what you mean RTJ, depending on how much music you have on there I could understand not being comfortable letting a big company see it.
    It's possible however that HP could be violating some privacy acts if they told the RIAA...I'm not sure
    If it was me I would back it all up onto an external HD, or even multiple DVD's depending how much there is, and then remove it from the laptop since they are likely going to clear it anyway.
    If your not comfortable with it, then do it your way.
