It's not going to "fix itself", soon or ever.
Part of the disparity is just normal fluctuation due to network traffic (more users=less bandwidth) and part is due to Comcast's inane "SpeedBoost" (which they actually
brag about in their ads!).
I recently took advantage of a Comcast special offer which included an upgrade to their top tier internet speed.
Following the "upgrade" I monitored the speed using a few test sites (speedtest.net, dslreports, pcpitstop) and saw absolutely no change from my previous service.
I called to complain and was told that none of those sites provide an accurate measure.
I asked how I
could verify the line speed and was told there really wasn't a good way but maybe downloading some large files from a known fast server (they actually recommended nVidia) was the best real world test.
So I said that they basically just expect me to take their word- and pay extra money- that my service was now faster.
"Yes", was the response.
Sadly, fiber optic won't be hitting my area anytime soon and Comcrap is the only deal around but make no mistake...they suck bigtime.
Here are two tests I just ran- approximately 24hrs. apart...
Note that not only is the DL speed different but the ping time varies quite a bit also.
