Currently, the biggest HDD I've seen is 320GB. If you put together 3 of them plus an 84GB one then you've got yourself a TeraByte of data. But the 320GB HDDs are a crappy 5400rpm, whilst the fastest available is 15000rpm, the interface is IDE, which can't match SCSI, RAID, SATA etc..
