    Go to TOOLS > FOLDER OPTION > VIEW then UNMARK file extensions for known types...

    If you are using Windows XP then go to your Properties for Folder Options and then click on the View Tab, look under Hidden files and folders and place a check mark on Hide Extensions for known file types

    For security reasons it's a really bad idea to hide file extensions.
    For example, you might think you're clicking on a document when in fact it's an exe which turns out to be a virus.
