Yeah, I would say that's normal. They run really hot (although I'm not there myself to feel it). It's a cost cutting measure for them to not install a fan.

The best thing I can say is add a fan and be sure your case has good airflow if you want to overclock it.

I OCed my fx5200 and am having no problems with it. It gets hot, but not enuff to fry it. I have pretty good airflow in my case, though, and a system exhaust fan in the side panel parellel to the AGP slot which helps vent hot air out of the case. I've had it OCed for a month now and have not had a single problem even while playing or after playing graphicaly intense games. I just increased the mem clock frquency a bit at a time and then bench marked it with 3dmark03 until i reached optimum levels without getting distortion or artifacts. I could only get my memory clock up to 451Mhz without running into problems. Increasing the core clock frequency is what'll really heat up the card. I'd recommend not going over 280 MHz with it. I got mine set at 279MHz.

you can o/c a little (increase about 20% i think) without extra cooling - manufacturers always put in a fairly large margin of error for clock speeds

there are plenty of guides on the net i recommend tweak3d

something to remember though - room temperature affects the graphics card, so if its winter the card would go higher than in the summer

Hey is there any way to over clock your processor WITHOUT going into the bios?

SoftFSB - according to it's homepage it's no longer supported, also notice it doesn't say it supports XP, use at your own risk

remember: overclocking doesnt make the card twice as fast.

i'm not trying to double the power. just trying to make my 5200 into a 5600. according to extreme overclocking.com, it's very easy tweak and very simple. and another q: if i oc my cpu, from 2.4 to maybe 2.6, do i need extra cooling? i have a heatsink and fan from intel

unless, maybe if you strapped a really big heat sink and an even bigger fan to it

but even then they only managed a 75% markup
