Thread: My Computer Takes Ages To Shutdown

    please anyone know what i can do? ive tried a google search for other sites but no luck. i have p4 with 512mb ram;
    North Bridge Chipset: 645DX, B0
    South Bridge Chipset: 962/L, B0
    External Graphic Card ( Standalone GPU ): ATi
    and it takes longer to shutdown than my old duron 1300+.

    [Start] [Run] [Regedit]
    Registry Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro
    l
    Modify/Create the Value Name [WaitToKillServiceTimeout] according to the Value Data listed below.
    Data Type: REG_SZ [String Value] // Value Name: WaitToKillServiceTimeout
    Value Data: [Default = 20,000 (expressed in milliseconds) Modify to preference.]
    *set to 1000*
    it will definately speed up the shutdown of your pc.
    Exit Registry and Reboot

    YOU WILL SHUT WINDOWS IN HEART BEAT GOOD LUCK.////

    nope thats not it, ive already set it to 1000=1sec. but thats when uve got the blue logoff screen, i mean that my comp just hangs when i press shutdown, then some time later it shutsdowns.

    Since you did mention that it is a prebuilt, why not call the OEM. They may be true tech support and just tell you to format it again but you may get someone who is not an idiot.

    i installed tweak-xp pro v3 and my comp now shutdowns quickly
    no idea why but it does

    It works now cos XP is naff cos it's made by microsoft and is full of bugs, and tweak seems to fix some of them.
