    so a summary of what you said would be that a light year would be distance per year, which is distance divided by unit time, which is speed

    so a light year, by your reckoning, is a unit of speed

    We all know Lightyear is not distance or time, hes a character in toy story.

    Light year sure is only the measure of distance and not time.


    Secondly, that doesnt mean it meant distance per year

    From our early prechildhood days we remember
    distance = speed * time

    Distance = speed of light * one year

    186 000 miles/sec x 60 sec/min x 60 min/hr x 24 hr/day x 365 days/yr
    or
    300 000 kilometres/sec x 60 sec/min x 60 min/hr x 24 hr/day x 365 days/yr
