    What exact make you talking about?
    Usually, SuperOneClick does the trick, though on newer models other techniques have to be used.

    Only a few selected models have root methods via an installed .apk
    Usually, you need to do it via your PC, primarily installing all the necessary USB drivers.

    Have you checked the Ace section at XDA? For sure they have all the rooting methods described there.
