Don't get me wrong, I respect your posts and this one ^ especially made me smile many times. Not least because "Cuppie Doll" rhymes with "Troll".

I really, really want to achieve nothing more here. The poll was all I was interested in, the dialogue that came after was inconsequential, however entertaining. I think you might have assumed I was taking this quite seriously and I can assure you, I was not.

    Piece.

Yes but then isn't intentionally misspelling stuff to demonstrate your wit sort of like letting yourself be beat up just so you prove that you to everyone that you can take a punch?

Are you including Africa in your statistics because I'm pretty sure greater than .001% of starving Zambians are fine with a DVDrip.

Granted there are fewer entitled egotists there.

Well, not exactly, could mean anything that comes across 'the tube' even though most western folks don't have a 'tube' anymore.

BTW, the number of folks in Africa (just about any country even adding in South Africa and Egypt) equal about the .0001% of folks either on the internet and/or on Usenet.

The landscape has changed for Usenet at least 3-4 times in the last 30+ years, adapt or die. If folks want to go down a certain road, and it works for them, fine. I just in a lot of cases don't see how the effort equals the payoff, either for those trying to 'make it pay' or those doing the payoffs. Maybe I'm wrong and they are rolling in the bucks, and those doing the paying simply don't see the easier (and cheaper) way. Okie Dokie.

    To each their own.

I come here first for everything, especially TV shows. Well organised and easy on the eye to view, the layout I mean. Usually, one of the quickest to appear too.

First off you don't get anything for free if you want the luxuries of the 21 century , there is always a cost even to get that something you think you are getting free , you're paying ......

-The internet itself costs to access media
-Cable or satellite cost to access media
-Even free advertised HD local channels have a cost(equipment cost to have access)
You say the landscape of Usenet is changing (or is changing) , sure I agree with you , it is getting pressure put on it by outside media companies for pirated and copyright laws , and the up loaders keep finding ways to stealth or code files etc etc to counter act that. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't .
But by your so called numbers and your upload stats that you do personally they never get taken down , so why isn't there a lot more intelligent guys like you and just follow your lead (maybe because it is 1 part truth and 12 parts bullshit ?? I don't really know??)
Now I have been doing this since the dinosaur ages of Usenet , and I may not talk or understand the technical way you speak of UseNet , but now I have just become lazy and let other guys search the Binary groups and post the NZB's , and so far it is working for myself , and if I am really desperate I occasionally grab a few things I want or my Wife and kids off a torrent site.

Here is my setup I Pay for my convenience ......

-2 Usenet NZB private sites (Get me all the movies and shows I want from Newest or latest to Oldies but Goodies with no commercials and the formats I choose, going back 3-5+ years from time to time)
-2 Usenet providers (one north America , one off shore , usually gets around all the takedowns and other crap in retention or damaged files on the binary group)
-HD Cable (pay for 2nd tier for local news and some local broadcast that are not on the net or binary groups , rarely watch tv shows or movies because I hate watching commercials that disrupt the flow of tv programs or shows , and to get there commercial free viewing or on demand you have to move up a few tiers to access it )
-High Speed DSL (obviously needed to access Usenet properly and for the kids when they are home , and any lookups on things or this forum for posting , and of course emails)
-Netflix (kids use at university dorms , plus some of the exclusive shows they produce that they now have available , but they are never up to date on the latest shows available on local broadcasting networks on cable or satellite)

So instead of your Drug or Alcohol Induced Chatter or you would call Technical Perspective .......

Explain where you think the future is going ??

And use my examples where you think savings and convince can be made to have the same luxuries I have ?? And instead of the Bullshit or Gibberish... Please give some examples , I really be interested in seeing what you have to say (I am Jewish.. so I am not shy to save money!!).

    Okie Dokie !!!

    Thanks

You are right in that the 'first cost' is the internet access, unless you are 'leeching wifi' off an unknowing neighbor.

And yes, even if you are grabbing the material 'free' off the air (OTA) there are associated costs (machine, encoder, software) in processing such.

And then into subscription plans (disc rental, cable, satellite, even these pay sites); which is why folks tend to think back to the days when most folks actually 'shared'.

I'm really kind of surprised that my simple (but apparently very effective) obfuscation/encryption technique, developed some 2 1/2 years ago, has lasted this long. Then again, a lot of totally 'in the clear' material has never been touched, either. It's really hit or miss, as long as you avoid pro-wrestling, porn, and the occasional low-rent (to me) 'tv' fare.

Not that I haven't 'collected' quite a few such series (that may be 'low rent' to others) but I did so through mostly 'conventional' (disc rental) means.

I think a lot of folks simply post as they feel like it, and if they get 'targeted', then it's up to luck (or lack of it), and figure that enough folks were quick enough 'on the draw' to make the posting worthwhile. But I remember when most Usenet services barely had a hundred plus days of retention, and everyone seemed to be dreaming of the day when it would be (virtually) unlimited.

Well, that day came in Aug08 or thereabouts, and I still see stuff I posted way back then still there (yes, I saved all the nzb's). So I think that the effort (and money) put into processing and posting is more important than ever, simply figuring that things are going to 'disappear' no matter what is giving up before you start, and in too many cases is driven by other agendas.
