At least use the modern two-word phrase.

In one last hurrah with my mom before I left, we had a few drinks.

It might be significant that she's a Trump supporter and thinks that any intellectual thought is propagated by the liberal machine, so that may play into this.

We argued and departed on sour notes regarding the negative opinion I hold of Pentecostal beliefs, for she took it as an attack on herself for enabling it in my childhood

I am departing on bad terms.

I wouldn't feel bad, Mary. Having given both of my parent-type figures a chance later in their lives, I got to see how little some people progress in their empty existences. I sense you have a similar case with your mother. The important thing is that you have decided to choose your own path, and seek your own place in the world. That is the opposite of stagnation.

Have a safe and fruitful adventure Macky.... And please try to keep in touch here, for it will not be the same without you

PS. I looked up "Pentecostal beliefs", so your posts and the dictionary/Google will also be missed, and Religion is overrated!!!!

Are you sure that you didn't misinterpret what she was saying, considering she was probably speaking in tongues?

I tried to avoid it because these types of nights have been ending poorly for the past five years, but there was no getting around it. It wasn't as much as a disaster as last time. If it was so inevitable, I just have to accept it.

Respect for your courage to face that for five years straight (probably waaaaay longer).

Having fucked off from my 'family' for over 20 years (my Hide-and-seek skills are up there with Anne Frank's), looking back, I can't say I would have benefitted by sticking around. Some relationships are best left across large land masses and/or bodies of water.
