    * groan *

    Do you remember this one, lynx ?

    One and halfscore, the posts are showing,
    win, place, and show united is rejection as a marking;
    the middle five of the whole, a type of setting,
    the last eight is a man prone to writing.

    Four in one, its middle two is a cannon booming,
    with bursts of fire like a hundred stars dancing;
    within that center is a country if you're looking,
    a city you'll find, if you focus on the beginning.

    Its first quarter is a letter with a greeting,
    the next, a memory with one millenium missing;
    then a duke, a prince or a king,
    the last, an endless catch in the sport of fishing.

    QUESTION: What is the word?

    Sorry to butt in, but heres a trick one. What proverb is represented by the following illustration:

    The chief of a tribe in Africa decided he needed a new throne. So he ordered his slaves to build him one made of the finest wood from the forest. It took many weeks to achieve this, but finally they succeeded and presented the new throne to the chief.

    He was very pleased and asked them to place it up in his grass hut on wooden stilts in the middle of the village. This they did and when finished, all stood back and admired the brand new throne in the grass hut of the chief.

    But, to everyones dismay, the weight of the new throne was so much heavier than the older one and all of a sudden, it fell through the floor of the hut and smashed to the ground in small pieces.
    ........

    Remember, use your imagination well!!

    Peace
