How To Port-Forward With a Linksys Router (WinXP Vers 1.2)

1.) Find your "Gateway" Ip. This can be done many ways, in this guide I was describe one.

2.) Start > Run > Type "CMD" (without qoutes) and hit enter > Command prompt will come up (black screen)>Type "ipconfig" (without qoutes) and hit enter.

3.) Now open up Internet Explorer (IE for short) and in the address bar
    type your gateway IP.

4.) Hit enter and you should get a password prompt.

5.) Now depending on who has messed with your router before there is a
default password. Many including the most common "admin" or "admn" if
you try either and no luck, then reset your router. There is a small button
on the back that says "RESET", press and hold for 45 seconds.

6.) Now you should be at the "Setup" page, Depending on the
firmware version your page my look different from mine.

7.) Now choose "Advanced" tab, this will bring us to more advanced features of the router.

8.) Now in the "Forwarding" tab, see the picture below on port numbers ect.

9.) Now depending on your LAN IP (see first figure to determan your LAN IP.) Just use the picture to help you figure out the ports.

10.) Hit "Apply" at the bottom and your done!

    11.) Now enjoy faster speeds!!!

Authors Note: I hope this guide helped you, if so a small thank you e-mail would be greatly accepted
Right call me dumb but i just dont get this can someone explain to me a bit better. Its line 3 and actually finding the ports on my system that is getting to me i'm pretty new to this and i just cant figure it out help anyone.

do you mean point 3? If so your gateway ip address is the network ip address of your router. ie the ip to log into your router. (probably 192.168.x.1 where x is either 0, 1 or 2). if you don't know your routers ip address open up command prompt (point 2 in the quoted list) and type in "ipconfig" without the quote marks. That should then tell you your gateway ip.

Finding the ports to forward is done by either checking the program's options (the program you are trying to forward ports for) or by looking on the internet to find out which ports a program uses. Normally you can choose which ports a program uses in options/preferences/settings.

If your stuck it may be better to make a new topic in the main bittorrent section because this topic doesn't get checked anywhere near as much

do i check TCP or UDP?
and for my IP address do i leave the 0 at the end or put the real number of my ip address on there?
make sure your on the same subnet as your router. do the ipconfig /all and make sure your octets match the gateway/dns server of your router. If the router address is 172.16.0.1 and your on anything else other than 172.16.1.x then you won't be able to connect to your router unless you spoof it.

btw, this guide is not that helpful. Well it is a little bit but not everyone has a shitty lynksys or a similar admin control panel.

The easiest less tedious way would just be to forward "all" ports to your box, get a personal firewall and make that machine dmz.

Authors Note: I hope this guide helped you, if so a small thank you e-mail would be greatly accepted
i cant see the pics that show how to set it up, mind uploading them again please i need this to work?

Well I'm not really new at bittorent but i just didn't mind the speed lol its from 5kbs-8kbs sometimes it goes down to 0.8 kbs. I have a network everywhere router im not sure if i have a firewall? maybe the window xp one , and norton anti-virus i forward my ports but the light never turns green im using azureus.
When i forward my port there was something like
    Customize program: I wrote Torrent
    Ext. Port: 6881
There was a box to check the Tcp i check it
