That will do nicely, Clocker - I assume from that that noob is using the wrong drivers, as the ones he selected were not digitally signed.

VNC is a method of remotely controlling a computer over the internet; he allowed me to control his computer directly via the VNC system so I could show him the method I meant.

the drivers were the right ones but there was a jumper on my motherboard set incorrectly

all is working well now though:

it was the SATA_EN1 jumper (just below the battery)

VNC is a really handy tool, it's like the windows system (remote desktop, i believe) but it's very fast

you don't necessarily need to let the viewer have control, you can limit them so they can only see the problem, but as you can imagine, it's a powerful tool in situations like these

Well, that's good to know. I was just in the process of reading the manual that I just downloaded.

It's good that it's solved. SATA_EN1 --- 'EN' must mean enable.

yeah, i'd imagine so

i was talking to a friend of mine and the first thing he said was to check the jumper
