Triad what is the name of your motherboard........
Ok . Thanks guys I found out how to overclock it and I did. I went from 999mhz to 1.10ghz. the temp went up from 33 degress celsius to 35 degress celciuse. How much farther would you go. How much farther do you think I could go without hurting my hardware? What temp in celciuse is to hot for a processor?

Triadcool, why don't you just get a 2500+, man? You could join the ranks of John Lennon and bigdawgfoxx (supposedly...)Originally posted by Triadcool@15 January 2004 - 06:13

i would overclock 10 percent of the cpu's front side bus
for example if you have a 133Mhz fsb amd athlon 2200+ xp (1.8Gz @13.5X), i would overclock it to 1.984Ghz at 147Mhz fsb * 13.5X
of course that's with the 2200 i dunno about earlier builds....
Triad,
I think you are going about this in the wrong way entirely.
Asking us about the acceptable numbers for your chip/motherboard combo is silly...you should be talking to your PC.
Wherever you are right now...STOP!
You need to run some stability tests and see if your machine is able to deal with the changes you have already made.
Run something like BurnIn test or Folding @Home ( at 100%) overnight and see if your temps get too hot or you get memory errors/instability/crashes.
There is no need to run right at the edge anyway, the slight bump in performance that you get is not going to be noticable in 99% of your applications and the frustration/potential harm just ain't worth it.
The simple fact is that if you want better performance the best way to get it is to upgrade.
Tweaking your hardware to optimize it is all well and good, but you have already said that you can't afford the $80 to get a Barton 2500, and unless you start to exercise a great deal more caution/planning you're going to fry your current chip and be SOL. Then where will you be?

I ran the overclocking software that came with my processor. (Fuzzy Logic 4) and it tested my hardware and found out that I can overclock to 1.40ghz with a temp of 38c and I could go up higher if I didnt mind the heat.
