You can coustome build it at Dell
dont.......... i just checked it............... my computer would cost 2x as much if i go with dell (i would get a extra monitor but still, that sucks).............

u cant get the cheaper AMD, they put in 2 256MB sticks if you want 512 and more nonsense............

just get your own parts.......... if you got the cash, make it work for you, dont get a "mediocre" machine.......... [/b][/quote]
Yeh, its called DDR mate...

2 256 sticks is faster than 1 512

its not DDR. that applies to the type of stick

its dual-channel as opposed to single-channel

not necseseraily, only if the board support dual channel, and if the pairs are matched, sometime its just a money saving issue.

Why not get like 4 of the 72GB Raptors? Or 15,000RPM drives? If he has that much money..he should go for it.

As for the CPU...I duno how daul things work really..or if you can use them in a PC, but it you can HELL YAH. I bet that would raise benchmarks alot B)

If he was getting a modern PC, I'd expect it to be DDR, since thats the standard isn't it? The fact is it doesn't matter, that guy was saying that he got ripped off because they gave him 2x256 instead of 1x512, I said it was DDR...

SCSI drives are very, very costly, plus you need a controller card most of the time.

Also, that Itanium he said he might get is totally pointless, its a 64bit Workstation chip and won't support normal applications.

If you want a power PC I'd say an FX51 or a Pentium 4 Extreme Edition.
Not a current Prescott either.

I dont even know if I would get a FX processor with 20k dollars. but lets just throw some things around here,

-Several of the 15k RPM drive on Raid Striping.

-A 3400+ AMD 64 Bit CPU.
-The MSI K8T mobo for the 64 bit CPU's
-Several 512MB modules of 3500Ram (not too many 3700 Rated are supported offically with the 64bit CPUs, and I dont know too many using 3700 anyway.)
-Radeon 9800XT, dual heads I take it for the,
-Dual 21 Inch LCD Screens
-DVD burner
-Nice big case, look into those upper end thermaltakes for the kind im talking about, near full server.
-A nice 580W PSU From either Antec of Thermaltake, (I would prefer Antec)
-Mouse and keyboard of your preference.

-As for cooling, something similar to what the Mach System use, I will have to head back over tehre to get out the specifics, but indeed, high end stuff.

-And whatever else you want, but that would be my ideal system.

Oh, and one of those 1GB USB 2.0 flash drives, *drools.
