    The cpu is the amd duron 1.4ghz 233 , i am using a 400 watt power suplly with the new pc, the old pent II had a 120 watt psu

    try using the 120watt psu, but only plug in the motherboard ram cpu and video card, thats it. then try to turn it on and see what happens. if it works then the power supply is faulty. if not then its het motherboard or cpu.

    the other power supply posted the motherboard, but it says CMOS checksum error defaults loaded. Now what should i do about the power supply?

    i didnt bother reading thru the rest of the posts

    if the processor is suspected, remove it. the system should post without a chip (if its bad it should still post anyways)

    ur mobos fucked, sorry man.

    oh ur fine. ur cmos batterys prolly ded

    first try turning it off and on several times. if the message doesnt appear anymore then you should be fine. no replacements needed. otherwise, invest 2 bucks in a new CMOS battery. look at the model # on the old one and go to your local electrical store (i.e. a radioshack) and buy it.

    ight but i now need a replacement PSU to replace the 400 watt dont i? Even with the error i can still press del and go into the bios set up. The power supply i tested with is a 120 watt . what should i do now?

    Not true. Without a CPU it won't post.
