Hmm everywhere I've seen revierws about the Gigabyte cooler, they have all been really really good, and none really said anyhting bad about it, now on the site that I am going to buy from, one guy just wrote a review and said all kinds of negative points about it that I have never read about on about 10 different reviews, should I just ignore this or rethink which heatsink is best for me?

On the good side it is pretty to look at and modder's will appreciate this aspect. It would be better if it had "chasing lights" like you see at Christmas and played a tune... Maybe.

CPU cooling, It's intended purpose, isn't so pretty. 56C under load with fan at 2000rpm and 52C under load with fan at 4000rpm (and loud&#33. My stock AMD hs/fan maxed out at 51C under load and was always silent. I used Nanotherm PCM+ for both.

The fit'n'finish/design also leaves much to be desired.
I used the 3.5in mounting and it is waaaayyyy to shalow - about an inch deep. Why? I wanted to mount it to match the front of my floppy and had to tweak to manage that - they didn't think this out at all. I'm sure the PCI mounting option would be fine.
The heatsink fits neatly into the housing which is very nice/good because the clamp is a joke - flimsy is perhaps the best word and I'll have to take care moving the box as a result.
The fan housing with the LED's also came off twice with very little friction. Maybe this is actually a "feature" to provide easy access to the fan/core (in the IT industry anything can be a "feature". Yeah like it's a feature when monkey's fly out of my butt&#33. It didn't actually come off all the way only about 50% so I didn't explore/press my luck by removing it all the way.

Okay on the plus side it is pretty. At 2000rpm it is quiet and since there is no great performance hit by increasing the fan rpm/noise why bother? So it does function and maybe as the thermal interface settles/burns in the temps will fall but as of now...

On all other reviews, none of these bad points were brought up, and on most it said almost the opposite

I think it's important to remember that even the most efficient HSF unit will be hobbled by an ineffectively ventilated case.
I have achieved very good results with my Zalman CNPS7000cu ( most reviews consider this to be a mediocre HS, but nice and quiet), by spending extra effort on my case airflow.
My sister's new PC ( which I am typing on right now) is doing surprisingly well with the stock heatsink modded with an 80mm fan.

Alright, I think I'll just go with the assumption that his case did not have sufficient airflow, as all the points he made, were contradictory to what other reviews have said.
and my case has very good airflow, nothing near Sprocket of coarse though
but I have 8 fans, 4x80mm and 4 smaller ones throughout the case.
So you think that heatsink would be an improvement over the stock one I have? I know the stock one is decent, but I want a new one

I found this article last night. By and large it would not work for me, underground cooling where I live just isn't really feasible.

But when I got to the end and saw the beer cooler that set all sorts of ideas running. As the weather has improved over the last few days my temps have slowly been creeping up (Cpu 52C atm). The consequences of summer temps horrify me. So the beer cooler idea seems ideal - they are designed to cool several gallons of beer per hour with an average temp drop of about 10C.

The specific heat of water is 4186 J kg^-1 K^-1 so reducing the temps of say 9 gallons of beer per hour by 10C requires the removal of approximately 1680000 Joules of energy per hour which equates to about 464 J/s or 464 W. This is obviously well in excess of the heat produced by the cpu (plus Northside bridge, graphics card and hard drive for that matter).

Better still I have some ideas where I can get one. I'll speak to my friendly bar supplies rep this evening.
