It's the negative publicity that will hurt them, not the fine.
Plus the fact that their WMP monopoly will be significantly weakened by the ruling.
they are being ordered to release a few of there api's as well. that will make intergrating other stuf into windows and competing operating systems will become more compatible.
THe fine is probably only gonna cover the costs of the 5-7 years that they are gonna drag this out over. and by then they will probably lesease longhorn and they will have to go through this all over again.
i saw it on news it was arround 500 million

EU Fines Microsoft $613 Million, Officially
They may have negative publicity but its not going to effect them too much as the way they have their business organized its hard for most people to avoid Microsoft products.
As for media player I don't use it. I use Winamp for music and Real player for movies (although Real player is pretty poor - has an annoying ad message thing and keeps on running an update thing that my machine doesn't like).
$613 bout ...Ģ307 thats nothing, they could have faced fines in excess of 3 Trillion because of lack of security on the MS.NET passport service.
atleast he's been sued!
I totally agree! First he manage to earn 400+ billion dollar, and now this. Itīs a shame really :'(Originally posted by h121589@25 March 2004 - 02:21
