Is there anyway to make the cpu fan go to max speed all the time? With or without Q-fan the cpu fan just keeps going up and down up and down I want it to go 3409rpm full time
Even with Q-fan disabled in BIOS the fan speed varies?

You could try SpeedFan and set it to run at 100% rpm.

as far as i know, the name of an amd cpu, is it's equivelent speed as a p4, so a 2500+ would run the speed of a p4 2.5, a 2800 would run as a p4 2.8 etc

A XP2500+ chip runs at 1833MHz as standard . The XP3200+ runs a 2.2GHz. The Amd chips simply do more work per clock cycle so they don't need to run as fast. BigDawg's quote of 2300 is his overclocked speed.

The designation is calculated from the equivalent performance of the original Athlon chip running at that speed. Since that outperformed the P2 and P3 chips of the time, it is superior to a comparison with those chips.

Intel have clawed back much of the difference with the P4 chips and have now taken the lead (when comparing those numbers) with their latest variants. This has lead people to say that the XP3200+ should only be labeled as XP3000+ because it does not match the Intel P4 3200. However, that is incorrect since it is not a direct comparison with Intel chips.

Amd still have the lead when you look at performance/price comparisons.

It is probably just that the sensor is not accurate enough, combined with fluctuations in the 12v supply to the fan. 100rpm variation is not unusual.

I found that mine was unstable between 183MHz and 195MHz base frequency. It was ok at 182MHz (x11 = 2.0GHz) and it was ok at 200MHz (2.2GHz) but it ran too hot at 200MHz. The temps settled down after a couple of weeks so I was able to push it up to 200MHz again.

Just testing my water cool system for leaks before I finally install it. With maximum cooling I'm currently getting temps on the waterblock of about 8C, and it hasn't fully chilled the waterbath yet. Condensation everywhere so I'll have to get some insulation.
