yeah, I am probably gonna go for a clicdev or bbfree, then if my forum grows big enough I will move to phpbb as It won't cost that much to use B)
could also use mybb which is a decent board with plenty of features.

So Im the only one who thinks vBulletin beats the others hands down?
(All of the following comments are IN MY OPINION! I do not want to start a flame war, but I WILL respond if anyone flames me for my opinions.
These opinions I have a right to express, since I do not flame any PERSONS)

iPB is shit. Ive seen its ACP, and its cluttered and confusing.
Color schemes of the default skin is horrible, and its skinning is very very hard to learn and customize since it spans across several CSS files.

phpBB has gotta be the worst forum software in history.
No other forum software starts to lag after 50k posts, and no other forum software got a worse ACP. The ACP has a fucked font and is completely arse on Firefox.
Worst parts of it all: Its FEATURE LOCKED and filled with security holes.

wBB is another free forum software, and a blatant rip offa vB2.
Theres not much to say about it, apart from its template system is absolutely horrible.
Theres a million font tags in them for seemingly random reasons, its very hard to design your own skin for.
On the bright side its coding is very very simple to get the hang of.
I wrote my first wBB mod after 1-2 months of modifying code.

myBB is a forum software still in RC format, and it seems to be a total rip offa vB3.
It uses
1) the same template system
2) the same ACP options (apart from the ones they dropped from vB3)
3) the same permission setting system
4) the same ACP design (only with shittier colors)
It has, as I said above, dropped half of the useful features of vB3, and added some new ...useful... ones like "toggle the 'dot' icon in thread view on and off".
On the bright side, it does get its ideas from the best forum software, so this might actually rise to be one of the better rips offa vB3.

vB, although at its cost, is the best forum software.
Its acp has a slick look, and all the settings are easily displayed and toggled.
Its template system allows for previewing of the edited template, updating of the page in real time (no need for constant ftp uploads) and a reminder of how the original template coding was.
Its permission settings for forums are color coded to easily spot what changes has been made and where.
It has a ton of mods, a huge support site and some of the worlds finest coders writing new mods almost every week.
If you do not want to pay the $160 to get the full Owned Licence and you are not afraid of being reported to Jelsoft (in such a case with an illegal licence, you will be asked to either delete the vB files or buy a legal licence, next step is lawsuit), PM me and I can point you in the direction of the latest vBulletin for free. Along with it, theres tons of mods available for free.

As I stated above, this post is entirely IMO (!!&#33.
I DO NOT want anyone saying "omfgz u flamed my forum software u bastard I hate u!!!!1one"
I perfectly understand that you have a different opinion from me, and I respect that.
But in my own experience, I have tried iPB 2.0 beta, wBB, myBB, phpBB and vB, and found that vB is the all time best.

Thank you for taking the time to read this rant, and I hope mods can keep their grubby mittens offa the Delete button, because I spent ages typing this up. I believe this post does not violate any rules.

no, neo, you're not.
If I were to actually wish to purchase a license for any of the currently available forum sotware, it would be vBulletin.
Powerful, secure, highly configurable.

I'd go for Invision over PHPBB (I've used both). I prefer the look and feel of Invision.

I don't really see all that difference in use and feel between Invision and vBulletin and Invision has the massive advantage of being free

Invision Power Board, technically is not "free", it's trailware.

Anyday, I would choose IPB over vBulletin.
