Can anyone recommend a good alternative to this annoying program?Ive never had anything give me so many errors!

I had a few problems (although not that many) with the newer versions so I went back to version 2.58 and have not had any problems. Maybe you could try that, as I don't think there are really too many alternatives that give good results.

Go to Option > Environmental Settings > VFAPI plug-in
Put directshow multimedia file reader on 2
BMP/PPM/TGA/JPG file reader on -2
AVI VFW compatibility reader on -2
TMPGenc project file reader on -1
everything else on 0
That should also help. Specially with XviD files.

if u want an alternative try virtual dub, thats a great program and is usually much quicker than tempegne.

heres also an older tmpeg u could try (12abete) imo it gives slightly better quality thean the newer 1s,but theres no project wizard feature,but u can use templates from the newwer version ,if u use them
